Sumantha M G hails from a family of reputed musicians of Karnataka. His great grandfather Bellary Sri M. Raghavendra Achar was a famous violinist of yester-years. He has served as a Music lecturer at Queen Mary’s College, Madras during 1920s & 1930s. His grandfather Karnataka Kalashree Vidwan Sri Bellary M. Venkatesh Achar & granduncle Gayana Gandharva Vidwan Sri Bellary M. Seshagiri Achar were well known as Bellary Brothers in the field of Carnatic music, and son of Karnataka Kalashree Vidwan M. Gururaj who is a well-known Morsing artist.
He was initiated into the art of Vocals under his father & later under Vidwan Delhi V Muthukumar. He was also initiated into art of playing flute under Vid.Gopalakrishna Iyer in the year 2003 for year & half. Later he was blessed to get training under Vidwan L V Mukund during the early 2010s. During this period, he was introduced to the cross finger technique from Vidwan L V Mukund.
Presently Sumantha is learning vocals & flute under Vidwan Allam Durga Prasad for the last 3 years. He also learnt the art of playing Mridangam & later he started learning the art of Morsing under the tutelage of his father, for over 15 years. He is a B Grade Empaneled Artist Morsing artist in Akashavni.
Sumantha has secured distinction level in the Senior grade exam ( Carnatic Vocals ) conducted by Dr Gangubai Hanagal Music university, Mysore in 2024. He actively performs vocal concerts, with Daasa Sahithya as his unique specialty and highlight. He has released an album which has first 5 chapters of Dwadasha stotra written by Jagadguru Sri Madhwacharyaru.
He has also composed soulful tunes for select Daasa Sahithya compositions, crafted to be simple, melodious, and easily learnable—perfect for devoted sadbhaktas to embrace and sing with heartfelt devotion.
